Fiyah B
world wide
"I CHOOSE TO SEE MYSELF AS PERFECTLY IMPERFECT & A WORK IN PROGRESS"
Whenever Fiyah B hits the stage, he blazes it up! With infectious energy and bewitching dance moves, there's no denying his star quality and charm. This hustler-meets-party-animal is the epitome of what soca culture is all about - unabated freedom, energy and joy.
Fiyah B was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by his Barbadian mother. Listening to Jay Z at school and Square One at home, his upbringing reflected a fusion of American and Bajan cultures and he developed a deep appreciation for music. Fiyah’s mother tried to shelter him from the rough side of New York but he always had a rebellious spirit and it was only a matter of time before he was sneaking out to run the streets in his teenage years. That’s when Fiyah B was introduced to Jamaican dancehall culture, Rastafarianism and Buju Banton, whose “Inna Heights” album would lead him into the world of reggae music.
After 9/11, Fiyah B moved from NYC to Delaware and started promoting reggae/dancehall parties and shows like the events he attended back in Brooklyn and started to build a name for himself in the music industry. His love affair with reggae music continued, and the artists he worked with inspired Fiyah B to record a few reggae tracks of his own. Unfortunately, in his words, “Dem ain’t sound good,” and a lack of strategy and know-how of the music industry led to Fiyah B closing the recording artist chapter of his life.
In 2014, Fiyah reconnected with his Bajan roots when he traveled to Barbados for Crop Over. Being immersed in the festival rekindled his love for the genre and wuk up culture. Back in Delaware, as destiny would have it, he linked up with Fuzed Team artist manager Paul Parris, and they bonded over their shared heritage. Fiyah B started working with the Fuzed Team as a videographer for Barbadian soca artist Jus D on his 2017 US tour, and one fateful day during Miami Carnival he handed DJ Blank the camera so he could “juck down” a reveller on a cop car. Blank caught the event on camera and it instantly went viral in the online soca community. On the flight back from Delaware to Miami, high on adrenaline, Fiyah B announced, “I want to record a soca track” and the rest is history.
In 2017 Fiyah B aptly released “Juk Down Gal” and the Fuzed Team offloaded one the most dynamic and zestful performers in the soca arena today. His follow up 2018 single “Buckle” garnered even more recognition on the local soca scene and resulted in a promo tour to Boston, Hartford, New York, Philly, Delaware, DC, Atlanta and finally Barbados where he shot the official music video for the song on his hometown block in the Bayland. There’s no stopping this fire ball now, who already has a full roster for 2020 with his groovy bashment hit “Bend”, the dancehall infused “Who De Gal Want?” on the InsideOUT riddim and more Fiyah to come!
Who de gal dem want? Fiyah B!!
