ArmenB Armen Boyajian Charlotte Armen Boyajian is a violinist, pianist and composer. He formed his jazz quartet Air Apparent in Washington, DC in the early eighties. The group included the late Frank Kimbrough (piano), Ed Howard (bass), Steve Williams (drums) as well Armen on electric violin. They performed in NYC, Baltimore, DC, Augusta GA & Charlotte. Since Ed Howard had already gone on the road with Roy Haynes and Steve Williams with Shirley Horn, Air Apparent also featured Onaje Allan Gumbs, Stafford James, Curtis Lundy, and Tim Horner. Armen plays Not a musical elitist, Armen has also played bluegrass and other genres. His original “Waltz for Bill Evans” was named Best Jazz Composition by the Washington Area Music Association. With Armen on piano, Air Apparent with Carl Brown on vocals & fluegelhorn was named Best Jazz Band by Augusta Magazine in 2001. That group featured Armen on piano, George Sykes on bass, and Erik Hargrove on drums. Wynton Marsalis and Wycliffe Gordon sat in with them in 1999 and a great time was had by all!
