Shake Rag Manchester Shake Rag In Manchester the word is out, Charles Moray is promoting a punk blues band that are well worth a listen and a watch. Moray, an eccentric gent from Louisiana, has been causing mischief in the North West of England for two decades, putting together and promoting a number of barnstorming acts… of which Shake Rag are the latest. Outside the Band on the Wall in Manchester’s famous Northern Quarter it is rumoured he will be here imminently… But instead a taxi pulls up and out tumble Shake Rag – all four of them. Richard J Moses on vocals and occasional guitar, Gazza Parvin on first guitar, Heath Evdemon on Bass and Phil Chapman on drums. Moray pulled them together in early 2021 with the clear and true intention of putting punk blues back into the clubs and pubs. Shake Rag have an original songbook and occasional cover tune, both drawing on the best of Blues, Rockabilly, 60’s Garage, punk. Shake Rag started gigging in Autumn 2021 and within weeks were having to turn stuff down. In 2022 their This Location Got No Station Tour sees them playing dates across the UK. The name Shake Rag is borrowed from a district of Tupelo, home to the blues, birthplace of Elvis, through which a railroad was built but not a station. If you wanted to stop the train you had to shake your rag. Shake Your Rag is also the name of just one of Shake Rag's own incendiary ditties. I guess you know you’re in the wrong part of town when the railroad goes through it but there’s no station. But if you think you’ve missed the last train to Clarksdale… You might be wrong. As the band observe in that tune with which they usually close their shows…. “Get back to the railway track and shake your rag.” The band are tuning up when word comes in, Charles Moray has been called away on urgent business. Just what that might be nobody knows.
