Kyiv-based label Thousand Kisses Place continues to introduce a new generation of Ukrainian electronic artists. Meet Palitra with his smooth yet impetuous rhythms, a swirl of manipulated samples, and aesthetically consistent palette of colors inspired by the classics of intelligent drum'n'bass, jungle, and footwork. Listen to the track “Hippocampus”, b-side “Foreign”, and a hard-edged remix from Lostlojic.
Yuriy Patselia aka Palitra was born in Kyiv but lives in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he studies creative technologies and industrial design at Virginia Tech, the state’s most prestigious university. He began to create music in school, dug deep into classic rock, progressive metal, experimental electronics from Aphex Twin to Xenakis, and then drastically changed his creative approach and matured for a full-fledged debut.
“Most changes in my perception of music are linked to a repeated and thorough analysis of the quote mentioned on the cover of this single. The transition from maximalism to minimalism, the development of conciseness skill, the ability to stop at the right time. Most interestingly, such principles work in any form of self-expression, up to daily communication.” – says Palitra.
Despite studying in the US, Yuriy has great ambitions for the Thousand Kisses Place label and Ukrainian community: “For me, the center of underground electronics has always been Europe, especially Germany and the UK. I want Ukraine to become an equally important spot on the cultural map, and I’m confident that we have the potential for that."
Thousand Kisses Place was launched in the spring of 2020 and has been gathering a growing creative community ever since. This is the fifth release of the label, it was preceded by EPs Hidden Element "Comparisons", Koloah "Borderlines", Vroda "Senses", Hidden Element "Kontinuum", which were accompanied by inventive online presentations and audiovisual collaborations with directors, visual artists, photographers, and listeners.
