A Light For Dark Moments by Tristan de Liège published on 2020-12-14T17:50:36Z https://www.holyvolcano.com I met Greg performing at a yoga class one evening that Fall and instantly felt connected to his tone and sense of phrasing, and we later became friends. This album was the culmination of several weeks of improvised piano and violin playing between Greg and I in the winter of 2018. That winter was very rainy and moody, and a personally very moving one, in which I was reflecting on a difficult past relationship and doing a lot of inward reflection. It represents for me an intimate conversation between two friends, capturing different waves and dynamics of emotions of nostalgia, peacefulness, excitement, and melancholy. Perhaps above all it feels imbued to me with the sense of lightness and openness with which it was made. I hope it can offer listeners a sense of peace during this tumultuous time of our lives. - Tristan The pieces on A Light For Dark Moments came into existence through a collaborative process that was simple and organic, which is not always the case when one is writing or recording an album. When Tristan and I began playing together shortly after meeting in 2018, we did not set out to make a record. We began playing melodies and beats that were improvised, looped, improvised some more, and looped again, always with the recording button on. The process of creating began quietly with a simple tone or short phrase. Variations on that phrase would unearth a melody and by looping that melody, adding harmony and rhythm, adding more layers, and then carefully stripping them away, the original seed would give form to a trunk, branches, and leaves that, much like a tree, no longer resembled any part of the original seed. The process was done without much talking- we simply listened and responded through the music. After a few sessions like this at my home studio, it was clear that we had created a cohesive set of pieces that were unified by time and place. It was a joy to create this album and now it is a joy for me to offer and share this first collaborative effort. - Gregory Allison Genre Classical Contains tracks Searching Your Green Eyes by Tristan de Liège published on 2020-12-14T17:50:34Z Cycling by Tristan de Liège published on 2020-12-14T17:50:31Z Solstice by Tristan de Liège published on 2020-12-14T17:50:29Z Meetings In Rain by Tristan de Liège published on 2020-12-14T17:50:26Z Descending On The Ship's Prow by Tristan de Liège published on 2020-12-14T17:50:24Z
