String Theory
Cape Town
Electronic Dance Music Duo | DJ | Producer | Vocalist | Songwriter | Music Author | South Africa
The talented duo about to set the SA music industry alight...
With two years as a music producer, DJ Matt Laubscher had been looking for a vocalist that would suit his music style. A chance hook-up from a friend brought him together with singer/songwriter and vocalist, Merinda Hill. Without ever having met, these two talented artists came together to form String Theory.
After several years on the club scene, playing alongside the likes of 5FM’s Poppy and Netherlands DJ, Alex de Saint, Laubscher had finally found his own sound. And with that came the desire to share his music with the masses.
His talent proved true when it landed him some international esteem, with events giant, Evintra, featuring his songs – like SPEAKER JUICE, CHILDREN OF AFRICA, BIG BANG AND LEAP OF FAITH – as soundtracks to their Fashion, Travel & Tourism videos globally.
But, it’s been this chance “meeting” and “an instant connection” (as Hill excitedly declares), that has truly taken Laubscher’s music to the next level. Having always possessed a distinctive passion for dance music, Hill has brought her intoxicating vocals and writing ability to the mix.
The duo is a testament to music’s ability to bridge any cultural gap. Its power is demonstrated not only in the coming together of this Joburg-based DJ and vocalist living in Cape Town, but also in what this pair has been able to create.
“Feel Alive” is the debut single released in May 2014 earlier this year by the duo as independent reaching over 6000 online downloads. String theory’s upcoming EP scheduled for release end of August 2014, will feature a hot remix of "Feel Alive" their debut single as well as hot EDM uplifting and sultry sexy new material, an eclectic mix of electronic dance music, melodic sounds, with a hint of trance. Stringtheory has gone global as well recently when they have done the background music for Events Giants EVINTRA’s AIBTM event video in Orlando.
A blog feature recently with Clubbers4EDM South Africa, has created excitement for Stringtheory and well-endowed exposure on the scene. Stringtheory has gone via airwaves within South Africa with their debut single "Feel Alive" gaining airplay on some local radio station with the likes of JoziFM, KovsieFM, StarFM,ZoneRadio, RadioNFM, Teemaneng Radio, VowFM, RadioKC, Ujfm,EldosFM, Bayfm, KowieFM. With the upcoming release of Stringtheory’s debut single, the duo will be confirming their performances around South Africa for the build up to the summer season online and print soon. “Our aim is to create music that is a fusion of both local and international flavours, a soundtrack that music lovers can journey through their lives with. Music that is personal and uplifting,” they explain.
