Exploring lush soundscapes and deep soulful grooves, Sophia Danai delivers honest and passionate lyrics over a sonic field that ranges from alternative R&B to sultry Electro-Pop. Okayplayer dubbed Danai a mix of Billie Holiday and Portishead, adding she’s a “dynamic singer with an obvious foundation in soul,” Over the past few years on the west coast, Sophia has emerged as an artist to watch for, working with top producers and established artists and always evolving in her artistry.
For her brand new album Love Royale, Sophia empowered herself with creative control as an independent artist, spending the last two years since her debut honing her production skills and collaborating with a variety of artists and producers such as Grammy Award winning, Jon Brown (Meghan Trainor, Pink) and Vancouver's Matt Brevner. Love Royale puts the raw beauty of Sophia Danai’s voice on centre stage, backed by gritty, deep electronic grooves and accented by hip hop cameos over ten original tracks. Inspired by the personal and creative changes Sophia has grown through in the last few years, she penned the entire album, especially the single “Something To Nothing”, co-produced by herself and her longtime drummer/producer Jon Holisko.
Sophia Danai released her debut EP Wishing Well, in 2013 kicking open the door to her music career. Wishing Well was produced by Grammy Award winner Chin Injeti, and featured Talib Kwali, Shad and DJ Khalil. Her song, "Higher Baby", was licensed to Appleton Rum for a nation wide advertising campaign, and she garnered two Juno nominations for her work with Madchild, and rising stars SonReal and Rich Kidd. A dynamic live performer, Sophia also shared the stage with Aloe Blacc, Quadron, and De La Soul.
Look out for Sophia Danai touring across Canada and the U.S. in support of Love Royale, releasing officially on March 1st, 2016.

"If you can imagine a perfect balance between the sass of the Spice Girls and the depth of Aretha Franklin, it would be Sophia Danai. Not only does the sound of her voice pierce past your soul like a spear, but she also has as much energy and positivity as the sun." - ION MAGAZINE.
