FOKUS Russell Gonzales New Orleans Starting as a DJ back in 1996 playing EDM and freestyle, which included artists such as DJ Icey, BT, Jasp 182 and anything on a Micmac or Cosmopolitan label. I was making mixed CD's and passing them out to friends and selling to anyone who wanted one. One day I got noticed by a local party promoter, and he called me immediately after listening to my mixed CD. Back then I wrote my cell phone number on all of the CD's just in case someone wanted more, or to book a gig. He loved the music and the mix, and asked if I could DJ at an event that upcoming weekend. He also had managed many of the top DJ's in our local area (New Orleans) during that time, so it wasn't a hard choice for me to accept. After my first set with this new local promoter, he booked me in most of the top EDM clubs in the area. Our DJ crew of 5 was playing, or holding residency positions for more than 60-70% of the club scene during that time period between '98 - 2001. I had to think of a DJ name quick, because I hadn't had a good one up to that point. My friend though that DJ-Danger-Rus would sound good, so I went with it. After being a DJ for so many years, my natural progression was to start producing and remixing my own music to play in my sets, and to promote myself throughout the New Orleans EDM scene. I personally loved producing much more than I did playing as a DJ, so I started to focus on this heavily and slowly started to fade out of the DJ gigs all together. I wanted to produce and remixe full time, but this was also very close to the time that Hurricane Katrina hit and I lost all of my gear, sounds, production in progress. Nothing survived, not even my large collection of vinyl. I had no back up master or any of the material needed to recreate the originals. I had lost hope after that, and starting to focus more on everyday life and getting things back together after such a huge loss. Needless to say, it had taken me a very long time to get to a point to where I feel I can start to producing some original tracks again. I hope everyone enjoys! You will notice a little of that old break sound to most of what I post. Enjoy!
