The process of writing this work eventually shifted me to more abstract thoughts, such as the concept of creating music that sounds flexible and has wind-like, ebb-and-flow qualities. I try to achieve this by creating musical zephyrs from repeated motives and smooth phrases that utilize gradual dynamic swells and subtle tempo fluctuations. In this sense, Embracing the Wind is perhaps more minimal and Romantic than many of my other pieces: minimal in that cells that are repeated over and over again as textural background, Romantic in that the form is intentionally less severe and also has a narrative, structural quality. Genre Classical Comment by TGSS/Langsämmer /Jünger/ Laxá/The Dark Messiahs So do the various ensembles commission works from you or do you compose something and pitch it to them? Love the arp on the harp underpinning the piece btw. 2022-11-04T18:28:41Z Comment by Classical Glass wonderful evocative composition and wonderful performances 2022-11-01T00:53:48Z Comment by Carl Liungman Pianist/Composer Thank you Rob, this is a wonderful composition and so beautifully performed. I like the smooth start of it. And then the flow of the allegretto section. Really windy piece. ;-) 2021-07-16T10:52:14Z Comment by Stephen L. Martin I was in love with it from the start. Nice instrumentation. I would not have thought of using a viola. 2021-05-18T20:34:12Z Comment by Gom Jabbar The viola and flute were both fabulous, but the harp stole my heart in this one. Loved the tasteful slides and fast arpeggios throughout. 2021-05-18T14:51:01Z Comment by Louise Wight-Boycott Wonderful as always! You have a lot of compositions, I have some catching up to do!
