Harvest (Revisited) AcoustaTronic Version by Riff Beach published on 2021-12-11T20:18:08Z Revised Mix of a previous AcoustaTronic Sketch of a Neil Young Classic that I had originally shared awhile back. Background courtesy of SongFacts: Despite being the title track of Young's 'Harvest' album, the actual song “Harvest" enjoyed far less fanfare than other songs on the set like "Heart of Gold," "Alabama," and "The Needle And The Damage Done." According to Jimmy McDonough's 'Shakey', the song's story was inspired by the life of Young's then-girlfriend, actress Carrie Snodgress (RIP), who said that while she and Young were tripping on acid, Young kept asking her to describe details about her mother Carolyn, who was a severe alcoholic that would regularly feign suicide in order to test the love of her children. Carolyn Snodgress would burst into tears every time she visited the studio to hear "Harvest." She died a few years after the song was recorded. As quoted in 'Shakey', Young believes "Harvest" is one of his best songs ever, and "the best thing on Harvest." Harvest (Neil Young) Released - 1972 Did I see you down in a young girl’s town …with your Mother in so much pain? I was almost there at the top of the stairs …with her screamin’ in the rain Did she wake you up to tell you that …it was only a change of plan? Dream up, dream up, let me fill you cup ….with the promise of a man Did I see you walking with the boys, though it was not hand-in-hand? And, was some black face in a lonely place …when you could understand Did she wake you up tell you that …it was only a change of plan? Dream up, dream up, let me fill your cup …with the promise of a man? Will I see you give more than I can take? Will I only harvest some? As the days fly past will we lose our grasp …or fuse it in the sun?
