From an Artist in Egypt (1993)- Complete Work - Kim Burwell (piano) by Paul Max Edlin published on 2017-10-19T11:41:57Z 1993 For solo piano Programme note: This set of six short pieces captures the vivid imagery of ancient Egypt as depicted in the skilful watercolours of Edwardian artist Walter Tyndale whose book ‘From an Artist in Egypt’ became an inspiration. We move from the awe inspiring image of the great 'Sphinx by Night', to the hussle and bustle of street markets (The Khan Khalil), the mystery of the 'Tombs of the Khalifs', an image of 'A Cortege' and the natural flora and fauna of the region '(The Jacaranda' and more of the antiquities such as a Doorway to the Temple of Isis'. These short pieces can be played as a set, or movements can be played on their own, especially ‘The Sphinx by Night’, which is a dramatic work, yet is not technically as demanding as the others. © Paul Max Edlin 1995 The pianist in this recording is Kim Burwell Genre Piano Comment by Joseph Haspel Wonderful music and performance - the music so rich in mystery - and the performance so richly conveying that mystery, and with perfect mastery too - thank you Paul Max and Kim! 2023-06-15T17:39:08Z Comment by Christopher Larkins | Composer Wonderful, intoxicating music. Really solid sense of atmosphere and fascinating, mysterious, textured writing and playing. The movements all fit together really nicely into a larger whole. Great work! 2017-10-24T14:58:37Z
