Emilie Houssart | Co-co-codac! by Owning Earth published on 2021-06-13T02:26:43Z Emilie Houssart, Co-co-codac!, 2021. Forest Floor, Sand, New Paltz Compost, Horse Manure, industrially farmed potatoes Out in the woods, the living forest floor meets us at body level in a series of geometric protrusions, confronting our notions of sanctuary in ‘unspoiled’ nature. Embedded with industrially farmed potatoes from local supermarkets, each form also acts as a record of collaborative slow labor and dialogue about contemporary relationships with the land. Older forms may sprout and decompose over the course of the show, as the conversations continue and new ones appear. The title of this work is taken from Eugene Ionescu’s absurdist play The Future Is In Eggs, in reference to the central role of the exponentially-growing potato in European colonialism, and should be pronounced as though by a human chicken.
