For the defenders of Ukraine.
Written, recorded and produced by K Gennery.
All instruments played by K Gennery except the wonderful main piano's and beautiful BV's by Alise Kirtley.
Image not my own.
Thank you Alise for being so generous with your time and talent and coming to work in my very basic home studio, with ancient gear and an ancient bloke. You helped to make the record exactly what I had imagined. It truely needed a gifted pianists touch and not my rough and heavy mitt's.
Twas a delight spending time with you.
Heres the actual open mic performance.

And Alise performing a cheeky little number at the very same open mic.

The story:
I wrote this song on my acoustic guitar and started to record it that way, but just wasn't getting the vibe as I did when played live. I tried various ways to get it down with the guitar including an electric...nope, nothing happening.
So I then thought maybe it wants to be a piano song but my wooden, plonkey key skills were not up to the task. About this time I was thinking possibly the song was not that good. Maybe I was feeling the emotion from the lyrics and not the melody. So I decided to play it at the next open mic, along with two other new songs and I asked the audience to pick which to record next. They all said this one. On the way to sit back down Alise, who I knew was an amazing piano player, said, "Thats a beautiful song". So, I tried my luck and replied, "I'm just not getting it down with the guitar, what the song needs is a classically trained pianist, anyone spring to mind?" Alise smiled and said, "I would love to be involved". I was tickled pink.
Lyrics:
So many of us fall, cause we all heard the call,
to bleed blue and yellow.
For this is our own home, dust will cover our bones, forever,
we'll never concede.
If I can't be found, lightening marks the ground,
if I can't be found, lightening marks the ground,
where I once stood.
Keep or children safe, teach them of our bravery.
Death in defiance, we'll never be compliant to invasion,
cause this is our nation.
If I can't be found, lightening marks the ground,
if I can't be found, lightening marks the ground,
where I once stood.
