midnight chorus, Ahja river late June by maaheli published on 2010-10-05T23:25:19Z Recorded shortly after midnight in late June 2010. Mostly birds can be heard here. In the tree to the right is a Nightingale and in the field to the left is a Corn Crake (crex crex). In the distance are a few Cuckoo birds and the deep sound far off is a Eurasian Bittern (Botaurus stellaris). I prefer the Estonian name for this which is simply Hüüp, like its call. Recorded with a pair of AT4021s, a MicPre and R-09. Genre Field Recording Comment by Tom Williams What a wonderful chorus! It's fascinating to hear so many birds which in the UK are rare or almost extinct all performing together. 2010-10-06T14:42:19Z
