Soundboxes For Lightboxes by Creek Waddington published on 2016-11-22T04:51:59Z This sound collage has been produced for the final fortnight of Sian Torrington's installation "We Don't Have to Be the Building" on Courtenay Place, Wellington. You can go and listen at the same time as viewing for total wow-wow immersion! 16 minutes for 16 panels. The project to which this soundtrack responds is 16 large lit panels that Sian filled with assemblage artwork about queer female and non-binary sexuality and activism, during the 30th anniversary year of Homosexual Law Reform in NZ. The lightboxes are showing from August 2nd till December 4th, 2016. Arrangement, original recordings, instruments and all production by Creek Waddington except as follows, and with gratitude. CREDITS: This track opens with a recording of the karanga performed by Dale-Maree Morgan at the dawn blessing for the lightboxes (3/8), and is used with her super-kind permission. It closes with a sample of Takataapui Noa Ahau, pretty much my favourite song ever, as sung by members of Tiwhanawhana at the opening event at Tory Street (12/8). This waiata was composed by Kevin Haunui and is used with his and Tiwhanawhana's also super-kind permission. It's no accident that this sample overrides the digital hectic bustle that goes before it in the track: Takataapui Noa Ahau is an antidote to all of the madness and badness. Thank you Kevin for writing it. The artist Sian Torrington features in this soundtrack in so many places OMG. Besides the obvious vocal sounds, she can also be heard playing piano as part of Band Sensations where I have sampled from our jams, and using a machete towards the start of the track. Thank you o glorious queen of my forests and valleys, for both inspiring this work and then contributing to it with your big whole heart. Xxxxxxxx Band Sensations is sampled: that's me, Sian and Amos Mann (thanks Amos!). The Duchess who regularly calls the Bingay numbers at S&M's is also sampled from an earlier collaboration, thanks The Duchess! And thanks to Sue Street who let me use her recording of Takataapui Noa Ahau so that it can be in here. Oh lastly, free drum samples are choice! I used the drum collection from 99Sounds.org, and the Dr. Dre Sound Pack from SoundPacks.com in the making of this soundtrack. Think that's everyone, thank youse. X x x xx X X xx Genre Soundtrack
