Old skins crack, tether no wiser shadows of a setting sun. Glory fades and none so brave promises the pagan shun. Drown in whisky, wine and clover all our troubles fearsome gone. Mine the ashes of december what I leave behind is done. Visceral stars above remember shadows of our temperate sun. Never too cold to celebrate, never too old we cry, never too late to change our fate, poor or great we die, Never too proud to say I’m sorry, catch and bury that lie, never too drunk to hide the worry, stop and wonder why And when our world all over ceases, when birds no longer fly, when nothing sings or pageant pleases, never too late to try. Elev’n bells toll the longing hour dragon fire spectacle begun. Crackling skies splinter shower quivers blazing run. Do gods sidereal ever wonder how a year in heav’n is spun? Never to greet the day in splendour shadows of our spartan sun. Moon the broker, tarry the weaver what I dream has yet to come. Stars surreal shine forever immutable and unforsaken. Ephemeral bells, our term is over rising river of dawn awaken. New year gather, wiser, waiver shadows of a setting sun. * * * Ephemeral Bells AB © Jon C New Years Eve 2010 London Genre Poetry Comment by Barddylbach We can take in the awe of what's eternal, but never miss the beauty of what we have - Now forever passes! 2023-12-30T23:52:25Z Comment by Z.M.
