Said I woke up one morning with a smoking gun in my trembling hand. I slipped into the shadows and headed for the western lands. On a fresh horse I “borrowed”, Rode past the church down the lane. On a wild mare I made off and I passed the church on down the lane. (and I didn't look back). Trigger-finger’s itchin’, and the hangin’ judge…he spoke my name (spoke my sorry name). Oooh, And the winter wind’s so cold, through the driving snow….. One foot on the trail, One foot in jail One shell in the chamber, …. Eight lined up if that one fails. (Guitar Solo and Repeat Chorus) I trudged down through the valley, And over the mountaintops, (2X) Well, I may have fooled the hangman, But my runnin’, it never stops. I'm Snowblind And Bleeding, but my mare she knows the way. Snowblind and bleeding, but this mare o’ mine she seems to know the way. Goin’ out to California, Try to make that Gold Rush pay. Oooh, And the winter wind blows so cold, through the driving snow….. One foot on the icy trail, One foot in jail One shell in the chamber, …. Eight lined up if that one fails. Tough Piece to Record - Needs Bass Guitar still. This is in that magic tuning I love, G-Modal. Jimmy Page recorded The Rain Song in it. I wrote several songs in this tuning. As I was first playing the rhythm a year or so ago, I kept it in my head that it might be a good bluesy base for a sort of Southern Rock song, which is not my forte' but turned out to be a vocal style I could actually do. I very carefully constructed the solos not to be overbearing and take away from the rest of the song. The intro was an ad lib I wrote before I ever put the first chords together. Then when the recording was done I played with the intro to see if it would fit over the rhythm. It blew my mind that it adapted and overlaid nicely with a little timing change. Very happy with this tune. If I could get them all to synthesize the way this song did I would be ecstatic.... Genre Rock
